The short answer

• We do not ask for or store personal information. There are no accounts and no newsletter.
• Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. Your inputs are never transmitted or stored.
• The site is funded by advertising, and advertising partners may set cookies and use them for personalisation.
• Email sent to us is used to answer you and, where relevant, to correct a page. It is not added to any list.

What we collect#

Nothing that identifies you, directly.

There are no user accounts on this site, no login, no newsletter and no comment system. We do not ask for your name, your email address or your location, and there is no form here that collects personal data.

The calculators#

The six tools run entirely in your browser using JavaScript delivered with the page. The feeder sizes, prices, temperatures and species you enter are processed on your own device and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Closing the tab discards them. Nothing is saved between visits.

The only file the tools request from the server is the public dataset at /datasets/bird-food-matrix.json, which is the same file anyone can download.

Server logs#

Like any website, requests to this site are logged by the hosting infrastructure. Those logs contain the usual technical information: the page requested, the time, a browser user agent string and an IP address. They are used to keep the site running and to understand which pages are being read, and they are retained for a limited period.

Advertising and cookies#

This site is funded by advertising. Advertising partners may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and may use them to select and measure the advertisements you see, including personalised advertising where that is permitted in your jurisdiction. This processing is carried out by those partners under their own privacy policies rather than by us.

You can control this. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies, and industry opt-out tools and your device's advertising settings let you limit personalised advertising. Where required by law, a consent notice will appear before non-essential cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time.

Advertising has no influence on editorial content. That commitment is set out in the editorial standards.

Email#

If you write to us, we use your message and email address to reply and, where the message is a correction, to fix the page. Messages are not added to any mailing list, are not shared, and are not used for marketing.

Third-party links#

Pages here link to external sources, mainly wildlife agencies and research institutions. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we have no control over what they collect.

Children#

This site is a general reference and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes#

If this policy changes materially, the update date at the top of this page will change and the change will be described here.
